Emerging Technologies and Creative Industries - A Vision for the Future

Published: 15 June 2006

June 23rd 2006- Leicester Marriott Hotel - A one-day conference that looks at the impact of emerging technologies and creative industries on regional development.

Cost £45 + VAT per delegate (includes entry to the conference, exhibition, refreshments and lunch). 9am to 5pm.

The digital communications revolution is upon us. For the regional economy, it sets both new opportunities and tough challenges. And as it changes the economic playing field, there will be new winners and losers. Creative industries will have an ever more important role to help shape the new digital economy. There is little doubt that the innovative application of emerging technologies by creative businesses will affect the competitiveness of the region and many companies within it.

This important event lays down the challenge to businesses, creative technology academics & innovators and public sector policy makers to take rapid action. Many individuals and organisations are already setting out innovative ways forward - and delegates will have a chance not only to learn from them, but also to vote on which initiatives are setting the highest standards.

This event is presented by the New Technology Initiative Creative Industries Centre for Knowledge Exchange in the East Midlands - a partnership between De Montfort University in Leicester and the University of Derby.

With keynote speakers from the University of Advancing Technology in Arizona and Knowledge Oasis Muscat in Oman, the event will:

· Reveal the emerging technologies that could help re-shape the economic and social landscape of the region
· Explore how regional development agencies must help businesses and communities reap the benefits of the transition
· Illustrate how creative industries must embrace emerging technologies quickly to secure economic advantage
· Highlight the opportunities for the creative industries and how with increased support this sector can help drive regional economic expansion
· Showcase the best in local creative technology initiatives
· Identify how emerging technologies can help to put the region more firmly on the global map
· How regional leaders must create a strategy to enable the East Midlands to be a frontrunner in the creative use of emerging technologies
