Nottingham filmmaker chosen for prestigious documentary scheme
Published: 11 January 2010
Nottingham filmmaker Ben Wigley has beaten competition from across the UK to become one of the 12 shortlisted candidates for the Scottish Documentary Institute's Bridging the Gap documentary-making scheme
Focused on creating imaginative and innovative short documentaries, Bridging the Gap provides a supportive training environment for new directors to work within a professional context to produce films that push the boundaries of traditional documentary.
Twelve ideas have been short-listed on the basis of the proposal and supporting materials. In the following weeks they will be developed and honed further through weekend workshops so that they can be pitched to a panel of experts who will commission the final seven projects.
Of his selection Ben Wigley said:
"The Bridging The Gap scheme offers a fantastic opportunity for me as a filmmaker. I've been earning a living as a video producer, editor and animator for a few years now and have produced some work of my own that people have expressed an interest in and and commended me for, but never more than that.
To have someone from the SDI see my potential and give me the opportunity to win the funding will...hopefully, act as a launch-pad to other schemes and productions and could be a real turning point in my career."
We wish Ben every luck with the project and look forward to hopefully seeing his completed short film in the summer!
