Nottingham agency maps an interactive future on BBC’s Springwatch

Award-winning interactive mapping technology developed by Internova, leading East Midlands interactive agency based in Nottingham, is currently featured on BBC2’s Springwatch with Bill Oddie website and television project.
The data mapping solution, data captured and managed by Internova, allows people to record observations of flora and fauna spotted from their location onto a recording website. Through broadcast on CBeebies channel, children are encouraged to become budding botanists by recording sightings of rare creatures like frog spawn, ladybirds, and peacock butterflies in their own backyards. The information gathered is plotted in real time on interactive maps that can be “played” to show how the pattern of observations changes over time across the county.
Internova’s data mapping system is used in a number of BBC programmes including Springwatch and Autumnwatch featuring Bill Oddie and Gardeners’ World featuring Monty Don. Interactive maps are embedded within the BBC website and broadcast quality versions of the maps are featured in primetime BBC1, BBC2 and News 24 TV programmes.
Internova’s interactive maps are now being showcased by the BBC across the country as an example of best practice for innovation. The product has been in development since 2002, which has led to Internova becoming an approved BBC supplier and gaining a number of BBC contracts over the last year.
